The Effect of Coenzyme [Q.sub.10] in Patients with Congestive Heart Failure
Article Abstract:
Coenzyme Q (sub 10) does not appear to improve symptoms in people with congestive heart failure. Researchers randomly assigned 46 patients with congestive heart failure to take coenzyme Q (sub 10) or a placebo and measured the heart's response to the treatment. Although patients taking coenzyme Q (sub 10) had higher blood levels of coenzyme Q (sub 10), the compound had no positive effect on the heart compared to the placebo. It also had no effect on exercise duration or oxygen consumption during exercise

Tumor necrosis factor antagonists and heart failure
Article Abstract:
Drugs that block the action of tumor necrosis factor may increase the patient's risk of developing heart failure. These drugs are usually prescribed for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel syndrome. Of 38 people who developed heart failure after they began taking these drugs, 19 had no other risk factors for heart failure. Ten were younger than 50 and when they stopped taking the drugs, three recovered completely and six had less severe symptoms of heart failure.
